As the Super League season began and the six nations continued it was a very busy weekend for all at the club especially as the new sports bar was showing all the live games. On Sunday, it was time to get back in to the swing of things away from the sports bar and the ground as we travelled away to Chester for our first friendly of the season.

A young squad was selected to travel north along with nine debutants, though very rusty to begin with the team soon geld and put in a commanding performance for the last twenty minutes and winning the game 42-18 against a very experienced Chester Gladiators side. The coaching staff were pleased in parts with the performance and know they need to improve greatly, however they were encouraged by how some of the 16 and 17 year olds plus the debutants new to rugby league handled themselves. A physical encounter was what we needed and its exactly what we got, with the likes of Harry Boots, Aaaron Lewis and Archie Snook putting in 76 tackles between them, accompanied with fine stellar performances from 17 year olds Ellis Simon and James Bartlett and 16 year old speedster James Smith scoring a brace. We are all encouraged with the future talent coming through the club and have always stated that if the player is good enough he should be given the opportunity regardless of his age.

After a long weekend, it was back to the grind stone as we had meeting after meeting with sponsors, partners and future links discussing the future of the West Wales Raiders. One of the main meetings this week was with our kit manufacturers at picton sports. We all felt that this season would be a great year to begin bringing in new colours for our away strip. With the colours selected and released it was now time to select all the options that we wanted our staff, players and supporters to wear throughout this season. With so many options to choose from we finally decided upon our new range, these will be released very shortly and will be available to purchase both online and at the ground at our home matches this season.

With the club now also running the sports bar it is a very busy time for everyone involved, as everyone already knows we have been working closely with the Scarlets but now as we have the sports bar at our home ground our main aim is to push forward and become a lot closer with Llanelli Town AFC. We think this is a great opportunity to improve both facilities at the ground and promote sport at the highest level within Llanelli and West Wales as a whole.

Thanks
