Doom 3: BFG Edition, a 2012 remake of the 2004 classic, has emerged as the toughest game to beat with demon hordes spilling through a portal to Hell. While a notable 39% of players reached the first story achievement, only a daring 3.7% managed to conquer this intense sci-fi first-person shooter.

The second hardest game to beat is Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, with a mere 6.5% success rate despite 42% of players diving into the action. Awarded Game of the Year in 2008, the title triumphed over a lineup of fantastic titles including Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2. Its successor, Grand Theft Auto V (second best-selling title of all time), boasts a higher completion rate with 23%.

Known for its addictive open-world and sandbox mayhem, in third place is Just Cause 4 Reloaded (2018) with a main game completion rate of just 7%. Trailing behind in fourth is the over-the-top, action-fuelled Saints Row (2023), where only 7.4% of players managed to beat the game with a significant 87% giving up after achieving their first story achievement.

Rounding off the top five hardest-to-beat games is Call of Duty®: Black Ops III – twelfth entry in the franchise – where players are thrust into futuristic warfare against cutting-edge military robots. Currently, only 7.8% of real-life warriors have conquered the game.
