The military mine washed ashore at Burry Port Harbour has been detonated safely.

A controlled explosion took place early evening on Monday by the Royal Navy’s bomb disposal squad.

Following its identification on Monday morning, the west beach was evacuated and police cordoned off the area.

Executive board member for leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “I would like to thank the coastguard, The Royal Navy and Dyfed Powys Police for their excellent assistance in ensuring public safety. Also, thanks go to the public for their cooperation and bearing with us throughout the day.”
