Dear editor

A quick sort through the Electricity Systems Operator’s database of grid connections, the TEC Register, shows that there are currently plans for 43 battery parks, 27 onshore wind farms and 18 solar parks.  These are all large scale developments that will connect to the 400 kV transmission grid, some involving new substations.  There is also one large hydrogen plant planned for Connah’s Quay.  There are no doubt many other smaller schemes that will connect to the local distribution system

It’s quite staggering the rapid growth of renewables in Wales, unfortunately most of it on greenfield sites in rural areas.  Considering the whole of Wales could be powered by only offshore wind with hydrogen balancing, we do seem to be going about this the wrong way
