As you come into Cynheidre there is a junction at the end. One road goes to Ponthenry and the other takes you over to Carway or back to Pontyates. On that road there is a Quarry that has been there since the 18 century.
The name of that road is Herberdeg Road and from what I been told over the years by the locals is that a man working in that Quarry back in 18th century was hanged.
It was on a tree further down than the Quarry and it was done by the other men working there because he had raped a local 17 year old girl living. All the stories say that the man’s blood curdling screaming can be heard at night coming from that tree on that road.
