The bodies of the animals were found in Pontypool Park. RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after two dead pigeons and a squirrel were found in Pontypool Park – with their deaths being treated as suspicious.
The bodies were discovered at the park on posts near the river on Sunday (19th April) and were seen by several members of the public.
RSPCA Deputy Chief Inspector (DCI) Gemma Black said: “This must have been really distressing for members of the public to see in Pontypool Park this weekend. We’re not sure exactly what the circumstances are here, but from what we know we share concerns with the members of the public as it has been reported that these animals could have been harmed deliberately.”
The RSPCA is now launching an appeal to find out what happened.
“We’re appealing for anyone with first hand information to get in touch to help us with our enquiries,” said DCI Black. “Our Inspectorate Appeal Line can be reached on 0300 123 8018 and incident number 01781951 can be quoted. We would encourage everyone to show kindness to wildlife. We share our space with a variety of wild animals. Every kind of animal deserves our care and respect.”
Rising cruelty, neglect and large-scale animal rescues led to a crisis point last summer. A six year high of animals in RSPCA care, almost half in emergency boarding because our centres are full. We urgently need to find loving homes so that we can continue to bring thousands of animals in need to safety.
