The Royal Welsh Showground hosted the Welsh Pony & Cob Society (WPCS) 125th Anniversary Show last weekend.
Founded in 1901, the WPCS is the original breed society for Welsh ponies and cobs. It’s now the largest native breed society in Britain, with members and affiliated organisations across the world.
As a registered charity, the WPCS has spent the past 125 years preserving, promoting and improving the Welsh breeds.
The anniversary event at Llanelwedd brought together breeders, exhibitors and enthusiasts to celebrate the continued success of the Welsh breeds.
Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) chief executive, Aled Rhys Jones, said: “The Welsh breeds are an important part of our agricultural and equestrian heritage, and the WPCS has played a vital role in preserving and promoting them over the past 125 years.
“We look forward to continuing to support the society and its members in the years ahead.”
Preparations are already underway for the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, which returns to the showground on November 30 and December 1. Judges for the equine section have now been confirmed, with the full list available on the RWAS website https://rwas.wales/winter-fair/competitions/
The Royal Welsh Winter Fair is one of the Europe’s leading prime stock events, bringing together top-class livestock, displays, festive attractions and Christmas shopping, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Tickets will be on sale in September.
