Heddlu Dyfed-Powys Police:

A lorry driver who was three times over the drink-drive limit was yesterday (August 21) sentenced to 12 weeks in prison – within a day of his arrest.

We received reports of a lorry driving recklessly through Llanddewi Brefi shortly before 11am on Monday (August 20). The 44 tonne vehicle collided with a car and hedges before becoming stuck at an unclassified road – known locally as Hostel Road – blocking it completely.

The driver was arrested with the help of local residents, who stayed with him while officers made their way to the scene.

A 48-year-old foreign national, Ioan Sandu, blew three times the drink-drive limit in police custody and was charged with drink driving. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and banned from driving for 28 months.

The road was closed until around 4pm yesterday (August 21).
