Keith Davies, Assembly Member for Llanelli is promoting the availability of a grant for World War 2 veterans by the Big Lottery Fund.

The Heroes Return 2 scheme provides Lottery funding to help World War 2 veterans who saw active service and are resident in the UK or Irish Republic to take part in commemorative visits.

Keith Davies who is a member of the National Assembly cross party group on the armed forces and cadets welcomed the success of the scheme in recent years and its continued availability to those who wish to mark the anniversary of events that led to the end of World War 2.

Keith Davies said:

“The scheme is open again to individuals or groups who fought with or alongside British Forces in World War 2. Importantly war widows and widowers are also eligible to apply including carers and spouses who will travel with them.

“Veterans can apply for travel costs and accommodation so that they can revisit the places where they saw active service or to take part in an official commemoration in the UK.

“As Remembrance Day draws nearer, I would like to highlight this scheme and encourage WW2 veterans from across the Llanelli area to apply for funding so that those brave individuals who stood up for freedom can have the opportunity to pay tribute to their friends and colleagues who make such a huge sacrifice for their country.”

Grants range from between £150 to £5,500 depending on the number of people taking part and the destination. For further details telephone the Big Lottery Fund advice line on 0300 123 0735 or visit www.biglotteryfund.org.uk
