RESIDENTS got rid of a staggering nine tonnes of rubbish in an amnesty held in Newcastle Emlyn.
The council and Tidy Towns organised the one-off event to help reduce fly-tipping and encourage people to recycle more.
Various electrical appliances, unwanted furniture, old mattresses and other general household rubbish were disposed of.
Of the nine tonnes collected, almost six tonnes was recycled.
Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “Hopefully the amnesty will have encouraged people to do the right thing and dispose of their rubbish in a responsible manner.
“It is also important we recycle as much as possible as we can no longer keep on sending our waste to landfill.”
