THE work being undertaken on roundabouts approaching Llanelli Town Centre is the final phase of a five-year programme of more than £60-million improvements to Llanelli Town Centre.
These “Llanelli Gateway” improvements are a necessary and conditional part of the ADREF regeneration programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Welsh Government.
The “gateway” elements are the final phase of the programme which has included amongst other things the provision of East Gate and improvement of the town centre public realm; linkages to and from town centre; the refurbishment of Coleshill Centre and grants for private sector property renewal which is ongoing.
The “gateway” project aims to support Llanelli, and the town centre in particular, by creating an environment which will encourage inward investment, economic growth and the provision of quality jobs in the local economy.
In addition to the enhancement of the roundabout gateways to Llanelli there will be “Welcome to Llanelli” signage installed completing the scheme and raising awareness of the town centre.
Carmarthenshire physical regenerations manager Stuart Walters said: “The gateways are an important element of the larger project focused upon raising awareness of the town centre.”
