Vandals are continually causing damage to a footbridge in Betws Park.

They are purposely knocking holes into the deck and removing the barriers making it unsafe for people to use.

The council repaired a hole in the deck at the end of July and now another has appeared further along the bridge.

It has had to be temporarily closed until it can be made safe again.

The council’s grounds maintenance team are now appealing to people to report any incidents and help catch those responsible.

Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Our grounds maintenance team do not have a never ending budget to keep on repairing the bridge and more importantly it is putting people’s safety at risk.

“I don’t know why anyone would get any satisfaction from causing this type of damage, it is just mindless.

“Hopefully by making the public aware we can stop these inconsiderate individuals from causing any further problems.”

If you have any information or witness any incidents please call Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
