A resident has been fined for dumping a rubbish bag in St Mary’s Lane in Carmarthen.
A fixed penalty notice for £75 was issued by council environmental enforcement officers for an offence of littering.
Failure to pay could lead to court prosecution where the maximum fine is £2,500.
Unfortunately there are problems with local residents leaving household waste in the lane near the trade waste bins.
Officers are hoping this fine will act as a deterrent, but are also warning that action will be taken against anyone else caught.
Executive Board Member for environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “This lane is close to the town centre so it is important we keep it clean; we don’t want to give a bad impression to visitors and it is also unfair on the responsible residents living there.
“Unfortunately there is a small minority of people who do not care and the only way they will learn is if we take action against them.”
