Families attending an after-school club in Llwynhendy are enjoying healthy meals.

The Llwynhendy Integrated Children Centre tea time club wanted to incorporate a healthy eating element to the group. Communities First provided healthy cooking alternatives at the club for the children and their parents who attend the centre straight from school.

It was very successful with positive feedback and overall everyone involved stated that they had improved in their ability to produce healthy meals for the family at snack time and have repeated what they did in the sessions at home together.

The sessions ran throughout November and early December with 30 people participating in the group over the five sessions.

One client said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, I feel what we have prepared and cooked at the centre has helped with the snack time at home and have repeated a few of them at home with the children who also help me to cook now from what they have learned in the group.”

Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “It’s good to hear that this initiative has been so successful and that not only are families enjoying the healthy meals but that they are making them at home too.”
