A DOG owner has been fined after he failed to clean up after his dog in the children’s play area in Ammanford park.

Environmental enforcement officers were on patrol in the area at the time of the offence.

The owner was seen walking away from the dog mess. When the officers spoke to him he admitted that he did not have anything on him to clean it up.

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75. Failure to pay could result in court prosecution where the maximum fine is £1,000.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he was appalled that someone had failed to clean up after their dog in a children’s play area.

“I cannot believe that someone would enter a children’s play area with a dog and without the means to clean up if it were to defecate,” he said.

“Not only is dog mess extremely unpleasant but there are also health implications to consider as well.

“This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be fined.”

Residents are being urged to help the council catch offenders by reporting dog fouling offences in their area. Visit ilocal.carmarthenshire.gov.wales and click on report or call 01267 234567.
