The Welsh Conservatives have responded positively to the news this morning that Liberty House plans to submit a formal bid to buy Tata Steel’s UK assets.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Conservatives said:

“We welcome the news that Liberty House is to submit a formal bid to buy Tata’s UK assets, which shows confidence that our steel industry has a profitable future in the global market.

“This will no doubt offer a degree of comfort to the thousands of hardworking families across Wales and England.

“Welsh Conservatives believe that by utilising devolved levers to reform business rates and amend procurement rules, Wales can become a competitive environment for steelmaking, and if elected to government that’s exactly what we’ll do.

“The Conservative Government’s efforts to support this process are now bearing fruit, and our colleagues in Westminster are doing all that they can to bring this process to a positive conclusion.”
