Plaid Cymru Mid and West AM Simon Thomas has urged people to give their views on a consultation about proposals for petroleum extraction including fracking in Wales.

Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Climate Change and Rural Affairs Simon Thomas said:

“Pembrokeshire has deposits of shale so I’m urging people to respond to a Welsh Government consultation on petroleum extraction to stop the fracking threat here.

We don’t need fracking in Wales and don’t want fracking in Wales.

“Fracking is the old way of doing things. It’s time to throw out the solutions of the past.”

“Instead we should amend land use planning legislation to fast track community owned energy schemes, with a presumption in favour of development.

“A Plaid Cymru Welsh Government would ensure resources from Wales are used sustainably, to tackle climate change and develop a post carbon economy.

“We would transform our energy policy to place the interests of Welsh communities at the heart of everything we do.”

“It’s time to throw out the solutions of the past and press ahead with green, clean energy – projects like the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.”

The consultation will close on 25th September 2018.
