NEWS UPDATE

Last night’s explosion in Waunceirch – Neath

South Wales Police attended an explosion which occurred in a small block of flats in Neath at approximately 8.30pm yesterday evening (the 14th of January, 2019).

The Waun Las block of approximately four flats in Waunceirch saw many people having to evacuate. This was due to the extensive damage caused to the building.

All occupants were accounted for with arrangements made to house them overnight. This was for the building to be deemed safe enough for their return.

One woman was admitted to Morriston Hospital with burn injuries which have been reported as not life threatening.

A joint investigation is currently underway between South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the incident.

Wales and West Utilities said the gas supply to the affected property had been an isolated case.
