Artificial intelligence experts from Swansea University will be sharing their knowledge with international peers at a series of special events, kicking off this month.
The first, a joint UK-Korean workshop entitled Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning for Fundamental Science, will take place virtually from Monday, November 15 to Wednesday, November 17.
The events have been organised by Swansea’s , who is Director of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Advanced Computing (), and Professor Seyong Kim, of Sejong University.
Professor Aarts said: “In the past ten years or so the use of artificial Intelligence (AI) and in particular machine learning has seen a dramatic increase in physics and astronomy.
“Due to the similarities of questions being asked, a cross-disciplinary approach is leading to unexpected connections between different separated disciplines.
“In order to build capacity, bridge gaps across disciplines, and develop a common framework, we want to bring together researchers based in Korea and the UK via three meetings – the first virtual one, another hosted in Korea and one hosted here in the UK.”
The events are being funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea, the British Embassy Seoul, and the UK Science & Innovation Network.
Professor Aarts added: “We are keeping the topic broad on purpose in order to stimulate cross-disciplinary interaction and to enable networking possibilities. Our aim is to develop common research projects between two countries.”
The first virtual event will be held between 9am and 11am (UK time) each day.
