Carmarthenshire County Council and the National Centre for Learning Welsh have announced a new partnership today (9 June 2025) which will lead to more opportunities for adults working with children and young people to learn or gain confidence in Welsh.
The partnership will support the Council in delivering the county’s Welsh in Education Strategic Plan – a scheme which aims to increase and strengthen Welsh-medium education provision in the area.
The Centre for Learning Welsh specialises in learning Welsh and is responsible for all aspects of the Learn Welsh sector. As well as community courses across the country, the Centre provides schemes for different sectors and groups, including education, health and care and families.
As part of the partnership, a choice of training opportunities will be available at different levels, from beginners to confidence building. There will be a dedicated Learn Welsh tutor to support the education workforce, and a tutor will be based within the Council, for staff working with children and young people.
Practitioners will be able to access the Centre’s other provision, which includes face-to-face courses, online self-study courses and virtual classes. The Centre’s Welsh at Home scheme is also available, to support parents, carers and guardians to strengthen their Welsh in order to use the language with children and young people.

Meinir Ebbsworth, Deputy Chief Executive and Strategic Director of the National Centre for Learning Welsh, said:
The partnership focuses on three core elements, namely the provision at school, how the home can support Welsh language development, as well as other services that support children and young people.
This is an innovative scheme, with the Centre intertwining its various services with long-term strategic plans, in order to assist the Council in realising the targets of the Welsh in Education Strategic Plans.”
