NSPCC Cymru/Wales is issuing the following statement in response to the publication of Welsh Government’s Programme for Government 2021 to 2026.
Policy & Public Affairs Manager for NSPCC Cymru/Wales says: “The emphasis on wellbeing and mental health in the Programme for Government is needed. Children and young people have faced many challenges since the start of the pandemic and this has no doubt taken a toll on their mental health.
“Our Childline service has heard from children who have felt trapped, spending long periods of time in unsafe home, while others have been cut off from their usual support networks.
“Even as restrictions ease, it is clear that children and young people need to be at the forefront of Welsh Government’s recovery planning and that a short term response will just not do. There’s a lot of work to be done, which is why we continue to urge Members of the Senedd to prioritise the needs of the nation’s children, ensuring they all have access to the support they need wherever in Wales they live.”
