The musical legend that is Mr Andy Fairweather Low put a magical seal on a hugely successful Llandeilo Jazz Festival.

Closing with sing-a-long versions of Wide Eyed and Legless and (If Paradise is) Half as nice, the 66-year-old guitarist raised the bar at the fourth annual festival.

The event is now firmly embedded in the jazz and social calendar for Wales with the 2016 event now promising to be bigger and better than before.

Three encores and a set which took the sell-out crowd on a musical journey through the career of Andy Fairweather Low, Amen Corner and the Low Riders, this was a real ‘I was there’ event.

Organiser Simon Buckley, of the Llandeilo-based Evan-Evans brewery, said: “We had a marvellous line up this year as with more than 30 acts spread over three stages between the White Horse Inn and The Angel across the road.

“We’ve had great support and cooperation from the local community and I hope the whole town of Llandeilo has benefited from having such large numbers arriving for the three-day event.

“Andy Fairweather Low is musical royalty and it was fitting that he should headline such a great festival and provide such a memorable performance on Sunday evening. It was magical stuff.”

Andy Fairweather Low and the Low Riders served up a dazzling set.

You name it and they did it – pop, rock, jazz, blue, gospel and skiffle!

There were tributes to great influential songs and guitarists, a rousing Green Onions/Apache medley, songs from Andy’s back catalogue and songs from his most recent albums.

Route 66 summed up the fact that Andy Fairweather Low is still a musician going places.

Judging by the crowd response at the weekend, the Llandeilo Jazz Festival is going places, too – upwards to a bigger and even better event next year.
