Action for Children’s Pan Wales Skills Plus+ service has been shortlisted for the Best Wellbeing Service award this year at the Mental Health & Wellbeing Wales Awards 2023.
The service, that supports care-experienced young people across Wales including Cardiff, Swansea and Flintshire, was shortlisted in a year that saw a record number of applications for the award. The awards will take place on Monday 2nd October at City Hall, Cardiff.
Chris Dunne, Children’s Service Manager for mental health in Wales, said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. Organisers told us the competition was very tough indeed and the judges were impressed so to get this far is a great achievement.
‘The team is very passionate about supporting care-experienced young people and they respond so well to the skills, techniques and support we provide. To be recognised in this way just underlines the work we put in and the value we put on the potential of every young person we proudly work with.’
The Skills Plus+ team provides a therapeutic intervention based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to improve the emotional and social well-being of young people who experience significant distress and relationship difficulties and struggle to maintain consistency in their lives. There is also a focus on working to give young people the practical and life skills to enable them to transition into happy, healthy adults.
