The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association UK (AMYA) is gearing up for its annual New Year’s Day street cleaning event, reaffirming its commitment to community service and environmental stewardship. On 1st January 2024, more than 2000 AMYA members from various regions will wake up early for pre-dawn prayers and thereafter, join hands to participate in a mass street cleaning initiative across 50 locations in the UK.

As part of their ongoing dedication to fostering community spirit and promoting cleanliness, hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers will assemble early in the morning armed with litter pickers, bin bags, and a collective passion for tidying up local streets. This initiative not only embodies the values of service ingrained in the Islamic faith but also signifies a commitment to creating a cleaner, more vibrant community for all.

“New Year’s Day presents a wonderful opportunity for us to start the year on a positive note by giving back to the local communities that we cherish,” said Mubashar Raja, head of community service for AMYA UK. “Our street cleaning efforts aim not only to beautify the surroundings but also to inspire others to take pride in their communities.”

AMYA’s initiative aligns with Islamic teachings taught by Prophet Muhammad that emphasise cleanliness as an integral part of faith and underscores the importance of actively contributing to society and the country one lives in.

The worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Caliph Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, encourages the youth to actively involve themselves in community service, become productive members of society, and dispel negative stereotypes through positive efforts.
