A clean-up operation is underway at Lindsway Bay on the north shore of the Milford Haven waterway after minor pollution was reported.

There is evidence of oil on seaweed and on debris washed ashore at the inlet. A sheen on the water can also be observed.

Natural Resources Wales described the pollution as “minor” but will keep an eye on the situation to minimise any impact on the local environment and wildlife.

Pembrokeshire County Council has erected a warning notice at Lindsway Bay and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency is being kept informed of response activities.

Other locations in the vicinity have been checked for signs of pollution, the source of which continues to be investigated.

A spokesman for Public Health Wales said: “It is unlikely that anyone exposed to oil for a short period of time will have any long term health effects. However, as a precaution we would advise the public to avoid contact with oils or contaminated material.

“If anyone gets oil on the skin they should remove clothing and wash using soap and water and if they feel unwell seek medical attention.

“We would also advise that all pets are kept out of water where oil is visible.”

Natural Resources Wales encourages anyone who sees a pollution incident to report it to their 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 807060
