PEOPLE are being given more time to sign up to a national scheme where they can group together with others to get a better deal on their energy bills.
Cyd Cymru, a collective energy switching scheme, was launched in October.
It gave people until December to sign up, but the deadline has now been extended until January 12.
The organisation will then negotiate a deal with the UK’s major energy suppliers via system similar to a reverse auction before advising people who has offered the cheapest tariff.
Making the switch is optional.
The council’s Deputy Leader and Anti-Poverty Champion, Cllr Pam Palmer, has been urging people to give it some thought.
“There is absolutely nothing to lose, but potentially a lot to gain,” she said.
“This is essentially a ‘bulk-buy’ where people group together with others in order to secure a better deal.
“At a time when energy bills are going up, it’s worth thinking about driving a better bargain with your energy supplier, and by doing it together there will be power in numbers.”
Collective energy switching has been trialled elsewhere in the UK, with participants saving between £60 and £250 per household annually.

The service is provided bilingually, and people are advised to have their energy bills to hand.
