Over 55 bikers dressed as Evel Knievel will be hitting the road next month (May), circumnavigating Wales to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and hopefully earning themselves a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the ‘Largest Gathering of Evel Knievels’.

RIDE Cymru Knievels, which covers 1070 miles, starts at 09:00 on Thursday 2 May from Wrexham, where the Mayor of Wrexham County Borough, Councillor Andy Williams and Mayoress Mrs Beverley Williams will see them on their way.  The team will continue its perimeter route over the next five days and include laps of three motor circuits – the Kinsham, Pembrey and Anglesey Circuits.  The following days will see the team set out at 09:00 from Monmouth, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Holyhead, before completing the ride back to Wrexham on the afternoon of Bank Holiday Monday (6 May).

RIDE Cymru is in its eighth year and has raised well over £70,000 for charity, with numbers taking part year-on-year continuing to increase. This year’s team even has some well-known faces among it, such as Stereophonics’ bass guitarist Richard Jones.

Another of this year’s riders is local Wrexham-based businessman, John Peers.  Commenting on the fundraiser, John explained:  “I am looking forward to taking part in RIDE Cymru for the first time this year.  It’s a great opportunity to join a group of like-minded motorbike enthusiasts on a challenging ride, through arguably some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside.  Macmillan Cancer Support is a very worthwhile charity and anything that can raise money and awareness for it is worth doing.”

RIDE Cymru organisers would like to thank everyone for the phenomenal support the fundraiser receives, including all the sponsors, the officials and management of the circuits for their continuing support of the event.  For further information on the event visit the RIDE Cymru website www.ridecymru.com, its Facebook page or donate at JustGiving www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cymru2019
