Scarlets’ four-point victory over Glasgow Warriors on Friday evening was a vital step forward in the region’s top four campaign as things hotten up in the Guinness PRO12 competition table.
Only eight points separate the team at the top, fellow region Ospreys with 30 points, and the team in seventh position, Scarlets with 22 points.
A four-point victory over Scottish side Glasgow was vital to keep Scarlets’ hopes of reaching the top four alive.
Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac said: “We’re happy to get the four points and not conceding a bonus point to Glasgow was important too from our point of view.
“It was really a continuation of the second half against Zebre that we were after.
I thought we stuck to the patterns that we wanted to and got the job done in the end.
“Certainly playing at home we put ourselves under pressure during the week. It was a game we said we had to win, to stay in contention with the top four we needed to do that. We’ve kept that dream of being in the mix at the end of the season alive.”
Scarlets travel to the west of Ireland this Saturday to take on Connacht Rugby who are only a point ahead in sixth place.
Pivac went on to say: “Connacht away will be a tough challenge. They had a good win last weekend and it will be a big game for us to ensure we stay in touch with the top four and top six for Europe.”
Scarlets return to Parc y Scarlets on Sunday 14th December, kick-off 5.15pm, to take on Ulster Rugby in the fourth round of the European Rugby Champions Cup.
