REDS WIN FIRST WARM UP GAME
Llanelli won their first European warm up game in Cardiff on Saturday afternoon when they beat Bridgend Street by 5 1. Rhys Griffiths bagged a hat trick with Jason Bowen and trialist Jordan Prosser netting the other two goals.
Llanelli started well with several chances going begging through Chad Bond, Craig Williams, Adam Orme and Chris Hyde, while the nearest Bridgend Street came to scoring was through a back pass from Lloyd Grist which went just wide of the goal.
Bridgend Street were putting up a good fight, but after a 5 player substitution by manager Andy Legg, they could not contain the Reds much longer and after good work by James Secker, the ever prolific Rhys Griffiths put Llanelli ahead on 46 minutes. Two minutes later Jason Bowen made it two nil, with his quick feet opening the goal up for a delicate shot into the corner, but then the home side, playing at the University Playing Fields in Llanrhymney, pulled a goal back through Robbie Fowler, brother of Neath star Paul, with 50 minutes on the clock.
Another series of substitions took place, with several trialists and youth players on show for the Reds, before the Rhys Griffiths show moved up a notch, with two sublime headers from superb Ryan Batley crosses from left back. Europe’s star striker of the last six years was on the march again. Rhys’s goals came after 66 minutes and 82 minutes.
With 87 minutes on the clock, Batley thought he had grabbed his first ever goal for the Reds but his vicious shot came back off the crossbar to ex-Swansea City player Jordan Prosser who fired home.
The following players took part in the game for Llanelli…
Ashley Morris, Chris Thomas, Lloyd Grist, Lee Surman, Stuart Jones, Chris Holloway, Chris Hyde, Craig Williams, Ross Jones, Chad Bond, Adam Orme, Jordan Follows, Jason Bowen, James Secker, Antonio Corbisierio, Ashley Evans, Jason Bowen, Tyrone Davies, Jordan Davies, Jordan Prosser, Lewis Jones, Martin Giles, Ryan Batley and Dale Evans.
The Reds next game is against Merthyr Town on Saturday 9th July. KO at Penydarren Park will be 3pm.
