Recycling banks in Pencader have had to be removed because of vandalism and break-ins at the school.
The banks were located in the yard at Cae’r Felin School for local residents to use to recycle their glass, cans, paper and textiles.
However, it meant the school gates were left unlocked during evenings, weekends and holidays.
Unfortunately the school has suffered a number of break-ins, as well as vandalism around the recycling banks and fly-tipping which staff have had to clean up.
Unfortunately, the council’s waste and recycling section have now taken away the banks at the request of the headteacher and governing body.
Officers are now liaising with the local member and the community council to find an alternative and more suitable site.
Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “Understandably we have had to take away these recycling banks from the school.
“The school was providing the community with a valuable service in having the recycling banks located there and it is a great shame that the actions of a few have now spoilt it for the majority.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle by providing facilities on their doorstep and our officers will now try to identify an alternative site for the recycling banks. It is not always easy to find somewhere to accommodate the banks as we need to make sure it is safe for the public to use and accessible for our vehicles.”
