As the 2013-14 season draws to a close, with rugby reviews being held with all squad players this week, Scarlets Head of Medical Andrew Walker gives an update on the player injuries within the squad ahead of the pre-season.

Back row John Barclay has undergone elected surgery on his shoulder and the operation was said to have been successful. Following a period of recovery he will move into rehabilitation with Scarlets’ physiotherapy team with a target of a return for the start of the 2014-15 season.

Winger Kyle Evans is currently undergoing rehabilitation on a ruptured tendon in his foot that required surgery. He will be fit for a return to the field at the start of the 2014-15 season.

Hooker Emyr Phillips has undergone shoulder surgery following his withdrawal from the field in the region’s home victory over Zebre a month ago. Following a period of recovery he will move into rehabilitation with Scarlets’ physiotherapy team with a target of a return for the start of the 2014-15 season.

Outside half Rhys Priestland will undergo surgery on a knee injury sustained in Scarlets’ last game of the season against Cardiff Blues last Saturday. He will not tour with Wales to South Africa and is expected to return to pre-season training mid to late August.

Centre Adam Warren has undergone elected surgery on his shoulder on a long-standing injury that he has been carrying. The surgery was carried out ahead of the off-season to give him the best possible opportunity to make a return for the start of the 2014-15 season.

Centre Scott Williams, who has this week been ruled out of the Wales tour to South Africa, is in the last stages of rehabilitation on his shoulder. The decision not to tour has been taken in order to ensure that he recovers fully from the injury and will return to pre-season training with the Scarlets mid-June.
