County Councillor Siân Caiach is to stand for Member of Parliament for Llanelli at the U.K. General Election Assembly election on May 7th 2015.
Siân said:
“I’m standing for people first to give the Llanelli electorate a chance to vote for a non party person, a real representative who doesn’t have to blindly follow party policy whether it benefits Llanelli or not.”
“In People First/Gwerin Gyntaf we promise to follow Bell’s Principles, (see below) drawn up by Independent MP Martin Bell. We promise not to act as a party, not to join coalitions and to consult the electorate wherever possible.”
“This means that every issue is only supported if it suits the voters of Llanelli and I will support any party, group or individual politician who I believe to be on our side, but only on a particular issue.”
“Its much harder work than the “easy” job of following a rigid manifesto regardless. I believe that in the modern, fast changing world, the old party system of a bunch of promises we all know are likely to be modified or even dropped if circumstances change, such as in a coalition, is outdated and unfair. We need a more modern, more focused democracy.”
About Siân:
- Born a miner’s daughter in the Rhymney valley, she moved to Llanelli in 1994 to take up a consultant post at Prince Philip Hospital. In 2000, after whistle blowing and exposing a private practice scam, she lost my job at the hospital.
- A community councillor since 2002 and a county councillor since 2008
- Sits as an independent with the People First group in Carmarthenshire County Council.
