NEATH Port Talbot Council’s hard line approach to fly tipping has led to another successful conviction.
Mr. Edward Ricketts aged 36 of Westward Place, Bridgend, CF31 4XA, was prosecuted for depositing waste on land without an environmental permit to authorise such a deposit.
A complaint was made last January of 10 bags of commercial waste that included files, office equipment and agricultural food, dumped at Longlands Lane in Margam, Port Talbot.
After investigating the waste further, officers from the Council’s Waste Enforcement Team found evidence relating to its possible origins.
The evidence led to Court Newydd, St.Brides, Bridgend, where officers spoke and showed photos to the Defendants mother, who then confirmed that her son, Mr. Edward Ricketts, had deposited the waste at the site.
The Defendant initially denied the offence when interviewed by the local authority but later admitted to depositing the waste at the site in Margam.
Mr. Edward Ricketts was ordered to pay a total of £1257.50 of prosecution costs that included a fine, compensation, costs and victim surcharge.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Ali Thomas OBE said: “We are determined to keep our communities safe and clean of illegal waste. The Waste Enforcement team take a zero-tolerance approach to fly tipping and this latest prosecution sends out a clear message to anyone contemplating dumping waste illegally. It is completely unacceptable and we will take legal action whenever possible.”
This is the latest in a series of prosecutions and thanks to the zero-tolerance stance; Neath Port Talbot Council continues to successfully bring action against fly tippers.
