Plans are progressing well for the establishment of two new primary schools in Tenby.

Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government’s 21st century schools programme are investing £8.37 million into a new English-medium primary and a Welsh-medium primary in the town.

Construction is underway at both sites, and the schools are due to open in September next year.

Each school now has its temporary governing body in place and the process of recruiting a head teacher for each school has begun. It is planned that appointments will be made in January 2016.

The governing bodies have also invited parents and pupils of the current schools to suggest names for the new schools.

They have shortlisted their ideas and are now inviting the wider public for comments, or any other suggestions.

Members of the public can respond on social media, by emailing County Hall, or by visiting Tenby Library and submitting their suggestions to library staff.

The shortlists are as follows:

Tenby Primary Church in Wales VC School

Robert Recorde Church in Wales VC School

• Note: The English medium school is a Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled (VC) School, so this has to be included in its name

Shortlist of names for Welsh medium school

Ysgol y Tonnau

Ysgol Hafan y Môr
