As the Campaign for Wool’s Wool Week gets underway (October 9 to
22) and Armistice Day approaches, Wonderwool Wales is delighted with
the support received from groups in Powys for its Curtain of Poppies
project.
It’s calling on more Welsh knitters to make thousands of textile
poppies for a large-scale installation to mark next year’s centenary
of the end of the Great War. The Curtain of Poppies will be on display
at Wonderwool Wales 2018 at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells
in April. Wonderwool Wales has had great support UK-wide and needs
more groups and individuals to get involved between now and the end of
the year to help reach the total of 887,858 that would be required to
commemorate each person from the UK who died serving their country.
The Knitting Club at Llandrindod High School, Llandrindod
Wells, Powys is one of many regional groups to have been inspired by
the initiative. There are more details in the release.
Support has also been received from craft groups and community groups
including the Knit and Natter group at Brecon Library, Guilsfield WI
and the Craft Club of Powys Radnor Federation of WIs. Powys War
Memorials Project are hosting a poppy making workshop led by
Wonderwool Wales on October 16.
