South Wales Police are urging residents in Sketty to be vigilant and to ensure their homes are kept secure. This is after two houses in the same street were burgled in less than a fortnight.

Detectives believe the break-ins at two addresses on Derwen Fawr Road were carried out by the same people. While enquiries are continuing they’re advising the general public to be on guard and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone with any information which may assist with the ongoing investigation.

The first address was burgled during the day on Wednesday, August 29th, while the second was targeted between 8pm and 9.40pm on Thursday, September 6th.

In both instances, access was gained via the back of the properties while the occupants were out.
During the burglaries, thieves helped themselves to cash, credit cards, handbags and electronic items.

Detective Constable Martin Loosemore said:

“While we don’t want to alarm anyone, I’d like to encourage the public to take all steps available to them to try and minimise the risk of them falling victim to burglars.

“Ensuring windows and doors are securely locked, installing alarms and CCTV, and keeping valuable items out of sight can all act as a deterrent to burglars. I’d also advise that tracking software is enabled on electronics and that bikes and similar equipment are security marked so that if they are stolen and recovered, we can easily reunite them with their owners. Expensive jewellery should ideally be kept in a good quality safe that is secured to the wall or floor.

“We have stepped up patrols – both high-visibility and plain-clothed – and are committed to identifying those responsible as soon as possible in order to prevent further offences. But I’d also appeal to the public to report any suspicious activity to us immediately.

“If you hear the sound of glass smashing or see someone unfamiliar acting strangely in your street, please don’t ignore it – please call 101 and report it.

“Time and again the public prove themselves to be our extra ears and ears within the community and their help is invaluable.”
