A massive explosion took place last night in steelworks plant at 3:30am. Thankfully there were no fatalities and two people in the area of the blast only suffered from superficial burns, which is extremely fortunate considering the size of the explosion as seen in dashcam and CCTV footage. The blast was reportedly caused by molten metal contacting cold water.

The Steelworks Plant where the explosion happened was founded in 1901 and is a production plant for steel. Over the years since its foundation, they have had four fatal accidents.

The explosion then caused a fire to break out in the area, damaging some local property, although this was thankfully brought under control quickly by the emergency services. Lance Davies, someone who lives in the town and was woken up by the explosion described looking at it, saying ā€œIt was like a scene from Independence Dayā€

Tata Steel (owner of the Steelworks Plant) have said in a statement – ā€œWe are currently investigating the cause of the incident and are looking to minimise any impact on productionā€.

Stephen Kinnock (MP for Aberavon) has said in a statement ā€œI think there needs to be a full review. Weā€™ve got to understand why it happened and make sure it doesnā€™t happen again.ā€ He also mentions how the Health and Safety at the plant has improved drastically since 2001 when three people were killed in a similar incident.
