Awards 2019 Ceremony

The Centre for Social Justice Awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars of the charity world’, celebrate the contribution of small charities and social enterprises make to our society

Applications are now open for the Centre for Social Justice Awards 2020.

The CSJ exists to prevent and tackle poverty across Britain, and holds an annual, high profile award ceremony that honours the best grassroot, poverty-fighting charities and social enterprises from across Britain.

There are six award categories: addiction, family, work and employment, education, financial inclusion and criminal justice.

The six winners will each receive a £10,000 prize and are profiled in front of hundreds of leading figures from across the country. Award winners have the opportunity to network with those in the room (which often leads to additional support and/or opportunities), and extensive local and national media coverage. This enables them to scale their impact, allowing them to achieve even more for the people they are here to help.

Previous award winners have been profiled on primetime television, had their services rolled out in every school across the UK, and have secured additional funding as a result of the exposure that the CSJ Awards gave them.

The 2019 ceremony saw the Amy Winehouse Foundation, established in honour of the deceased singer Amy Winehouse, claim the top prize for its work combatting addiction among young women. National charity Safe Families for Children, who partner with local councils across the country, was celebrated for its work connecting isolated families with volunteers in their communities. London charity West London Zone was rewarded for improving the educational and wellbeing opportunities of disadvantaged children.

Tempus Novo, a Leeds charity, was recognised for its work improving the employment opportunities of ex-offenders, and the Fife Employment Access Trust topped the employment category for supporting those with mental health problems to find work.

Andy Cook, Chief Executive of the CSJ, said:

“At the core of the CSJ’s philosophy is the idea that those on the frontline of poverty and other social problems are among the best-placed to resolve them.

“This is why we celebrate small charities who have been working day in and day out for years, often without recognition, and whose impact in their community has been profound.

“If your work connects with our core themes, please apply via our website. We are always looking for new talent, particularly those charities who have made good use of the little means available to them.

“The 2020 CSJ Awards are set to be bigger than ever before.”

So if you or someone you know runs a small charity or social enterprise (under £2M turnover) set-up to combat worklessness, improve educational outcomes, help struggling families, tackle addiction or financial exclusion, or to help those within the criminal justice system, apply for what would be a transformational CSJ Award via their website.
