Responding to the announcement of a 17-day “fire-break lockdown” in Wales, Cadan ap Tomos, Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd candidate for Ceredigion, said:
“These decisions are never easy, but I trust the expert advice that this is the right thing to do – to protect people in our communities and reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.
“I’m glad there’s extra support from the Welsh Government for businesses forced to close by these new rules, but for too many it won’t be enough.
“The UK Government must step up to support our economy through this period. We need to return to a full furlough scheme for businesses who are forced to close or reduce their services in lockdown areas.
“That’s the only fair way to support workers and protect what are otherwise viable businesses.”
