As part of the Autumn budget, the Chancellor has just announced 5 billion pounds of funding for local road maintenance across the UK, enough to fill 1 million potholes each year. Alex Kindred, Car insurance expert at Confused.com says:

“Our research found that a huge 240,000 complaints were made to local councils in England about potholes last year. More than one in four (28%) drivers across the UK also told us that they’d even had an accident of a near-miss because of potholes. Clearly, it’s a problem that continues to affect the safety of our roads, so the announcement of extra funding for maintenance and repairs will come as a relief to drivers, especially those who have seen their vehicle damaged as a result of potholes.

“With almost 40% of drivers having had to pay out over £100 to repair the damage caused by potholes, it’s important to understand how to reclaim costs you’re entitled to. Knowing whether to claim off your insurer or your local council can be confusing, so if you do experience a bump in the road, our advice on how to claim for pothole damage breaks down the process. It’s also worth reporting the pothole to your local council before the problem gets any worse.”
