As we move into the growing season of 2023, Megan and the Food Squad are pleased to announce the we have started work on our new garden site, Gardd y Banc Bwyd/ The Foodbank Garden, where we aim to increase the amount of food grown for PBP Foodbank and Kidwelly community fridge.

We have successfully been awarded a Keep Wales Tidy, Local Places for Nature food growing development package. Local Places for Nature are funded by the Welsh Government. As part of the package we will receive a shed, a greenhouse, raised beds, fruit trees and bushes, wild meadow turf, seeds, tools and more.

We have had a few sessions already this year where we have started on paths, and making the raised beds. If you would like to get involved or help in any way contact us at ljwilliams@cetma.org.uk

Some jobs to do in the garden in February are:

  • Prepare the soil in your raised beds, adding amendments if necessary.
  • Pruning
  • Start chitting early varieties of seed potatoes
  • Start early varieties of seeds under cover
  • Plant summer flowering bulbs
