Career and income focused searches 2023
Career and income focused searches 2023
  • We found that the most popular roles which people are searching for, who would like to change career into those roles (based on average monthly searches), are the following:
    • Accountant (1.6k monthly searches)

    • Data Analyst (880 monthly searches)

    • Project Manager (880 monthly searches)

    • Software Engineer (880 monthly searches)

  • The peak month for searches around change in career and income is January – indicating people start the new year wanting a fresh start and a change in direction.

  • We also found that the peak time for these searches was 4am, implying that people are losing sleep over their income and career decisions.

  • ‘What job should I do?’ saw the highest volume of monthly searches with 5.4k average searches per month.

  • This was followed by ‘career advice’ (3.6k avg. monthly searches) and ‘best paying jobs‘ (2.4k avg. monthly searches).

  • When looking at 2013 vs. 2023, we found that searches for ‘best paying jobs’ had increased 152%, while ‘what are the best paying jobs’ saw an 85% increase and ‘how to get a pay rise’ saw an 83% increase.

  • This increase in income-related searches may be linked to the cost-of-living crisis beginning in late 2021.

  • On the other hand, ‘how to start your own business’ saw its highest volume of searches in 2013, and its lowest volume in 2023, showing a decline in the desire from people to start their own businesses. Could this also link to the cost-of-living crisis and employees seeking security rather than their own business venture?
