Dear editor

Reading the information on the Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) website for the Y Bryn wind farm makes sobering reading!

National Resources Wales (NRW) are very critical of the proposals due to the dreadful impact on visual amenity to residents and the general public

The Welsh Government soils unit are against the development due to the disturbance of peat soils which lock up tonnes of carbon

Both local planning authorities are critical, as are local politicians, due to the unprecedented size of the turbines at 250 m high

What is most surprising is the view of NRW, who are landlords of the site and due to gain significant rental income if it goes ahead.  They surely cannot have been unaware of the plans until now?

It will be interesting to see if this proposal is approved, as it could scupper the Welsh Government’s leading policy on climate change.  However, as it looks likely that a Labour victory in Westminster would trigger more offshore wind in the Welsh sea, the Welsh Government will be able to meet all their targets without having to approve any wind farms on land
