This International Dog Day (26 Aug), why not treat your four-legged family members to a stay in a brand-new self-catering cottage on the SCHLOSS Roxburghe Estate in the Scottish Borders? Newly opened in July, the 35 new dog-friendly cottages are elegantly appointed with sumptuous furnishings, Molton Brown toiletries and freestanding baths or rainfall showers, with some offering in-built saunas. The cottages are a great fit for dogs and their human parents who are looking for their own space and privacy, all while still enjoying the benefits of being a short walk away from the many amenities of SCHLOSS Roxburghe hotel, one of the most pet-friendly hotels in the country.

A beautiful historic manor house set in the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, SCHLOSS Roxburghe offers up plenty of pup perks, including treats whipped up by a chef from a dedicated doggy menu, including Yappertizers such as ‘Tail Wagging Eggs‘ with a mix of scrambled eggs, ham, carrots, and lavish ‘Poochie Poultry’ with poached chicken breast, carrots broccoli and gravy. The bedrooms inside the hotel are also dog-friendly, and include individual baskets and rugs and homemade treats for your pooch, and dogs are also welcome in hotel restaurant Charlie’s, as well as in the bar, the drawing room for Afternoon Tea, guest lounges, golf course and clubhouse.

SCHLOSS Roxburghe is also an ideal base for dog-walking, as it’s perfectly situated in over 300 acres of land to explore, including a woodland walk and riverside strolls by the River Teviot. On the hotel’s doorstep, the Scottish Borders offers up hundreds of miles of forests and woodland, lochs and rivers. After you’ve been out making the most of the countryside, you can wash any muddy paws with the dedicated doggy shower in the Gun Room.

“At SCHLOSS Roxburghe we know that for many dog-owners, travelling without their pets just isn’t an option – either they’re unable to find a suitable pet-sitting service, or they just don’t feel right leaving their dogs at home while they travel,” says Marketing Manager Michael Mann. “We’ve gone to great lengths to make SCHLOSS Roxburghe one of the dog-friendliest hotels in Scotland, with a carefully crafted menu for canine friends, acres of woodland to explore, and manicured lawns to unwind on.

“Here, dogs are welcome throughout the grounds and in the communal areas and restaurants. We’re very clear in advance with guests that they should expect to see dogs throughout the hotel, and our dog-owning guests are respectful of other guests’ preferences (as well as the furniture!).”
