How to Promote Kindness in the Workplace
“The 21st century has seen a significant rise in the general public’s understanding of mental health concerns, and with the amount of time spent at work, it’s no wonder that the spotlight has found itself pointing at the workplace.
Although kindness in the workplace isn’t a fix-all solution to mental health issues, it can certainly help to alleviate stresses and offer a safe haven for those who are struggling.
Here are a few ways you can promote kindness in the workplace.
Be helpful
When we’re at work, it can be easy to get into a routine of just doing what is required of you. While this isn’t inherently bad, reaching out to a colleague who might need a bit of help with some work can be a great way to demonstrate kindness in the office.
Show appreciation
Has someone completed a particularly difficult piece of work or offered a helping hand when you needed it? If they have, show them some love with a little message or chat, or even let the whole team know just how much you value their contributions. Remember, it doesn’t need to be over the top; a simple thank you goes a long way.
Be kind to yourself
As well as being kind to others, you should always remember to be kind to yourself. Learn to ask for help when it’s needed, take appropriate breaks, and learn to switch off from work if work is becoming a source of stress. Treating yourself to a nice pastry on the way to work can also be a small act of kindness for yourself.”
