Welsh charity, Dolen Cymru Lesotho, is working with volunteers, partner organisations, the Welsh Government, the Lesotho & British High Commission, Lesotho Rugby Academy and schools across Wales and Lesotho to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

Dolen Cymru Lesotho was founded in partnership and friendship between Wales and Lesotho in 1985 and supports the delivery of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Lesotho and the Welsh Government on themes of Education, Health, and Women’s Empowerment. We are also committed to facilitating shared learning and cultural exchange between the two nations.

There are a number of activities happening this month:

March 3rd – School groups return from a school exchange visit to Lesotho funded through Taith (Ysgol Bro Preseli, St. Cenydd and Carmarthenshire Secondary Teaching and Learning Centre)

March 5th/6th – HRH Prince Seeiso of Lesotho will attend events at the Senedd- St David’s Parliamentary Event, including a visit to St. David’s Cathedral

March 11th – Dolen officially celebrates its anniversary with a video montage to be shared online, Basotho Blanket Schools Competition to be launched and celebration events/activities happening in partner schools across the country

March 21st to 24th – Health volunteers’ cycle from Wrexham to Cardiff to fundraise for Dolen

Later in the year:

25th May –  Lesotho Rugby Academy charity cycle ride to London

5th June – 7th July – Basotho teachers to be placed in schools in Caerphilly for 4 weeks

22nd June – Pen y Fan community hike for Dolen – all welcome

28th June – 7th July – Taith International Exchange visitors from Lesotho to Caerphilly, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire

4th July –  Taith Celebration event with visitors from Lesotho with the Welsh Rugby Union

22nd August – Dolen and Lesotho Rugby Academy Gala Dinner as part of World Rugby Legends event in Cardiff

During this difficult and divisive time, especially with regard to the reduced funding for Development, any of the above stories and/or events would shine a light on the importance of global solidarity, peace, partnership and collaboration.

Dolen is able to provide staff and/or volunteers to talk about our work in English, Welsh and Sesotho.
