Action for Children’s Stepping Stones service in Swansea has welcomed a special guest as former Lord Mayor Councillor Paxton Hood-Williams visited the centre following his successful fundraising efforts for the charity during his mayoral term.
Cllr Hood-Williams raised thousands of pounds for Stepping Stones while serving as Lord Mayor of Swansea, championing the charity’s work supporting vulnerable children, young people and families across the region. His visit to Stepping Stones offered a chance to see firsthand how those funds are making a difference.
Stepping Stones offers services for pre-school children with an emerging or diagnosed disability through a therapeutic approach. The children take part in activities both in a group and working one-to-one with a project worker. During the visit, Cllr Hood-Williams met with staff, toured the facilities, and spoke with young people and families who benefit from the service.
Katherine Gilmour, Service Coordinator at Stepping Stones, expressed her gratitude: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Hood-Williams and show him the impact of his incredible support. His fundraising has helped us continue offering life-changing support to children who need it most. It means so much to our team and the families we work with.”
Cllr Hood-Williams reflected on the visit, saying: “I have known of the work of Stepping Stones for many years, and It’s humbling to see the dedication of the team and the resilience of the young people they support. This is why I selected it to be one of the beneficiary charities of the 2024/25 Lord Mayor’s Charity Fund. I’m delighted and proud to have played a small part in helping this vital service continue its work.”
Action for Children continues to deliver essential services across Wales, advocating for children’s rights and wellbeing through practical support, therapeutic care, and community engagement.
