A 54-year-old man has been jailed for nine years and six months after he physically and sexually assaulted a young child in the 1980s.

Nicholas Alexander Llewellyn Adams, a 54-year-old from Rhondda Street, Swansea, was found guilty of 10 non-recent child sex offences. This abuse spread over a decade and started when the innocent child was under 10 years old.

The court heard that the abuse began with a cruel mixture of physical assaults that led to the child being forced to perform sexual acts on Adams. This escalated over years and left the survivor physically injured on multiple occasions.

They were too scared to reveal the indescribable acts following threats from their abuser. In a victim impact statement, they recounted the years of abuse that left them with physical injuries and mental scars.

“I will never know how different my life could have been if I hadn’t been subjected to the horrific sexual abuse I had to deal with as a child,” they said.

“When it first started, I was told not to tell anyone, or I would be in trouble. I knew what happened wasn’t normal, but I knew I couldn’t tell anyone.

“I am finally glad this stage is over and I can close this horrendous chapter in my life. I feel by attending court today this is the final chapter in my psychological trauma caused by that man in the dock.”

Adams was found guilty of the following offences and was sentenced in Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, March 20, 2026.

  • 5x indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14,
  • 5x committing buggery* with a boy under the age of 16.

The full sentence includes nine years and six months in jail, a 10-year restraining order against the survivor, and the defendant will need to comply with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Christine Beaton, from Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “The bravery shown by the survivor is truly inspiring. They have faced a trauma that has stayed with them for almost their entire life and shown immense courage in the way they have carried themselves throughout.

“Crimes of this nature are truly horrible, and I hope that this result can offer a path for them to move forward.”
