A Mid Wales man awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list has been congratulated by tourism leaders.
Steve Hughson, 63, from Newbridge-on-Wye, has been recognised for his service to agriculture, tourism and events in Wales.
His distinguished career has spanned policing, rural affairs, major events, tourism, youth development and volunteering across Wales.
Former chief executive of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Mr Hughson has chaired Mid Wales Tourism Forum for 10 year, sits on the Welsh Government Visitor Economy Forum and is chair of the Event Wales Industry Advisory Group.
He also chaired the Mid Wales Tourism Conference, organised by Mid Wales Tourism (MWT Cymru) at the Metropole Hotel & Spa, Llandrindod Wells, earlier this month.
MWT Cymru chief executive Zoe Hawkins congratulated him on his MBE, saying: “It is a well-deserved recognition of someone who has given a huge amount to this region and to our industry. I thank you personally for all the work you do to support Mid Wales Tourism and tourism in Mid Wales.”
Wales Tourism Alliance chairman Rowland Rees Evans and MWT Cymru vice chairman Suzy Davies added their congratulations. “Steve is a person of calibre and class who really knows the tourism industry and has been the perfect ambassador,” said Mrs Davies.
Mr Hughson responded: “Whilst honours like these are awarded to the individual, I know I would have achieved very little without the support and dedication of those around me.
“This huge honour is a tribute not only to me but also to all the people I have worked with over the years in agriculture, tourism and events.”
