- Wales recorded 283 Premium Bonds winners for every 100,000 residents over the past 12 months, ranking 33rd of 47 UK counties and nations.
- The nation returned 9,030 high-value winners (every prize of £1,000 or more), worth £25,984,000 in total.
- Dorset led the UK on 590 winners per 100,000 residents, while Greater London recorded the most winners in raw terms (23,263) but ranked 36th per head.
New research has revealed how Wales compares with the rest of the UK for producing Premium Bonds winners.
The study, from Bitz.io, ranked every UK county and nation by the number of high-value winners (every prize of £1,000 or more) they returned for every 100,000 residents across the last 12 monthly draws.
How Wales performed
Wales ranked 33rd of 47 UK counties and nations, returning 283 high-value Premium Bonds winners for every 100,000 residents. Across the 12 monthly draws, 9,030 winning Bonds nationwide shared prizes worth £25,984,000, averaging about £2,878 per winning Bond.
That places Wales just below Northamptonshire (285 per 100,000 residents) and just above Nottinghamshire (281) in the national ranking.
Nationally, Dorset topped the table on 590 winners per 100,000 residents, while Greater London recorded the most winners in raw terms (23,263) but ranked 36th once population is taken into account.

Commenting on the findings, Gabriele Asaro, Head of Research at Bitz.io, said,
“Wales produced one of the highest numbers of winners in sheer numbers but drops to 33rd when you adjust for population, which tells you something about how many UK residents hold bonds. Additionally, the number of rural counties at the top suggests these areas hold more bond value per head, which points to wealth distribution as much as anything else.”
